Proposition 30 Endorsed by California’s United Auto Workers Union
UAW Joins Strong Labor Backing of Bid to Expand California’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

Sacramento, CA – The Clean Air California coalition today announced that the California United Auto Workers Union (UAW) has joined their growing ranks of Proposition 30 labor supporters. UAW adds to the proposition’s strong labor backing which includes California Nurses for Environmental Health and Justice, Unite HERE, UFCW, the California State Pipe Trades Council, CAL FIRE Local 2881, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California in supporting Proposition 30.

As one of the largest unions in North America, UAW’s endorsement demonstrates the uniquely broad coalition of support coalescing behind Proposition 30, with environmentalists, health experts, and automobile manufacturing workers all in agreement that Proposition 30 will help California move forward towards its climate goals.

Prop. 30 will curb California’s largest sources of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by investing nearly $100 billion over the next 20 years to prevent wildfires and jumpstart our transition to clean, zero-emission transportation across the state. The act will provide consumer rebates for Californians, especially those in low- and middle-income communities, to purchase zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Funding will also support the expansion of ZEV charging infrastructure bringing jobs throughout the state.

“Unions continue to show their support for Proposition 30 because they recognize that it’s good for workers and good for California,” said Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer of California Environmental Voters and supporter of Proposition 30. “We’re grateful to have UAW’s support of our measure, which will create new green jobs for Californians, provide funding for apprenticeship programs, and assist working families by making ZEVs more affordable.”

Labor endorsers join a diverse coalition of environmental organizations, healthcare advocates, social justice organizers, and businesses in support of Proposition 30.
